About Me

The Founder: Mesina Jones Alvarez

In January 2024, I was at work and received a text message from a friend with a flyer attached for the Ms. Full Figured Ga Pageant. The flyer read that registration was still open for participants. I had just buried my father in October of that previous year and had been dealing with bouts of depression. Something in my spirit told me to try it. It was an easy choice to make when deciding my platform. Especially after the passing of my father from Cancer, so I decided Breast Cancer Awareness would be the next social plight I pick up. For many years, I have given away toys and clothes to needy families during Christmas, and I also feed the homeless and raise funds for propane tanks during winter cold months for the homeless in my community that are unable to get into shelters and live outside. My family has had many experiences with breast cancer and have lost loved ones. Just a couple years ago I had a first cousin undergo genetic testing and discovered that there was a gene in our family’s DNA, PAL-B-2, People with a single PALB2 mutation are at an increased risk to develop certain cancers, such as female breast cancer, male breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and pancreatic cancer. All of this was new to me and scary. After research I have discovered the best way to combat this disease is education, early detection, and diagnostic testing.
